Business Profile

Welcome Simpson Bros was established in 1919 by George and Dick Simpson following their service in World War 1. The brothers bought two ex. Military vehicles and from their base at Stocksfield, began transporting coal and coke in and around the Tyne Valley. The next few decades saw modest growth of the business and the addition of two more members of the family, George's two sons Ralph and George Jr.

About Us The company began to see significant growth in the 80's and 90's, and by 2001 had a fleet of around 50 vehicles, and served several industries such as packaging dairy and steel.

In 2001, the decision was taken to lead the firm into the PalletFORCE Pallet network for the first time. With our strong reputation in delivering full load consignments, it wasn't long before the pallet network volumes began to grow. This, coupled with a booming artic fleet meant another relocation was on the cards, and the company decided to build a brand new distribution centre on the Drum Industrial Estate in Chester-le-Street.
The new site was opened in December 2003 and was where the fleet of now over 100 articulated vehicles operated from. In 2008, the company had outgrown this facilty and the directors decided to move the business to a 22 acre site in Chester-le-Street, with a 330,000 sq ft Warehousing facility.

Storage and Handling Our distribution centre encompasses a 330,000 sq ft. area of high bay, narrow aisle racking perfect for the storage of palletised goods. We employ the latest specialist handling equipment to ensure the safe and fast flow of pallets throughout the warehouse. We have dedicated warehouse account handlers who monitor customer stock levels and handle all picking, packing and despatch requirements. This is co-ordinated through our specialist warehouse management system employing the latest technologies. If necessary, customers can interface with our IT systems and gain real time inventory information.
